They maybe weren’t trusted to use the stove 2 months ago, but, if since the arrival of the bambino, they’ve stepped up and shown their capabilities when it comes to being a caregiver, it stands to reason that the parents might see that the kid has what it takes to keep a stationary infant alive for 4 hours. I really don’t see what could be a problem here. Unless the 13 year old gets some weird devious notion to take the baby our for a walk, or try feeding it marbles dipped in honey or something ridiculous. It will just lay there and MAYBE need a diaper change and a bottle. Some kids can handle responsibility, some can’t. 13 is just one of those ages where you can’t make blanket assumptions because they are becoming young adults and some mature faster than others. But one thing we don’t know is- does the 13 year old WANT to watch the baby? And if they successfully do so once, is it going to become an indefinite responsibility forever? That would not be fair.
